I am a Jesus pusher!!! I propose this as if I have never gone against Him. The real truth is Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief (1 Timothy 1:15). I am guilty of crucifying Him! The Jews of the Dispersion listened to Peter’s explanation of Pentecost. His message highlighted Jesus; the One they had taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death (Acts 2:23). Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). My heart resounds with this same question, for I am as guilty as they.
“What shall we do?” is not a cry for a list of rules or activities which will undo the situation. Let’s call a committee meeting; let’s develop a plan of action. This is not “do” in the sense of an action, performance, or accomplishment. There is nothing to “do” in this sense. What action could I “do” which would balance what I have already done? Good deeds do not cancel our bad deeds. How much money could I pay Jesus to cancel my debt? How much service is demanded? I debt is huge; I am so guilty!
“What shall we do?” There is absolutely nothing I can do. The matter is in His hands. He has come to me with the embrace of forgiveness. He embraced me with the warmth of one who is my Lover! He whispered the desire for intimacy with me! He restores me back to His dream for my life! No wonder I am a Jesus pusher!!!
