I am a Jesus pusher!!! I desire to step from a “doing” religion to a “responding” Christianity. I want to live in His presence and experience His action. I want my thoughts and movements to be in response to His sourcing and supply. Christianity has always been so difficult and tiresome. Is it because I have been “doing” it? Could I collapse in His arms and let Him do through me what I cannot do? Is this why His death on Calvary is really my death? It is death to all my doing. I will live in response to His person.
The Jews of the Dispersion cried out, “What shall we do?” (Acts 2:38). Peter did not give them a list of things to do. He spoke of response. They were to respond in repentance (Acts 2:38). It is a change of mind. Jesus had already accomplished this in them, for they were asking the question. Would they respond to this change? He encouraged them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38). This was not just a ceremony to experience. It was an embracing of Jesus who had already embraced them. Would they respond?
In fact, responding would allow them to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). According to the passage (see Acts 2:33) Jesus poured out this gift in abundance upon them. The issue is one of response. Will they simply “receive?” I will respond to Him in this moment. All He is doing in my life, I will embrace. All resistance or hesitation is set aside. I want Him in His fullness. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
