I am a Jesus pusher!!! When cut to the heart the Jews of the Dispersion cried out “What shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). Peter’s answer was “Repent,” (Acts 2:38). This is not an activity to do but an attitude of response. The Greek word (metanoeo) consists of “meta” (denoting changing of place or condition) and “noeo” (to exercise the mind, think, or comprehend). Repentance is giving up a former thought to embrace a second thought.
The Spirit of Jesus revealed truth to these Jews through Peter’s sermon. They had embraced the perspective of the leaders of Israel. Jesus must be eliminated for the sake of their traditions and law. They were content with their involvement in His crucifixion. Now the Spirit of Jesus has convinced them (changed their mind) and cut them to the heart. Repentance is not an activity they will do, but a response to what Jesus revealed within them. Will they embrace Him?
This is the attitude in which I want to live! Jesus reveals; I respond to His revelation. This is a state of repentance. Repentance is not an experience one has or an activity one does. It is not something to go through, to accomplish. It is a state of intimacy with Jesus as I constantly respond to what He reveals to me. He constantly lifts me to new levels, changing my life for the better, and He enables me in new avenues of service. I will offer no resistance to His revelation. I am living in repentance. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
