I am a Jesus pusher!!! Isn’t it amazing? God loves me so much; He makes promises to me! Listen to Peter’s sermon, “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call,” (Acts 2:39). The main verb in the passage is the Greek word “eimi” which is a verb of being. Peter does not have to convince God to promise me. It is not wishful thinking. The promise is placed into a state of being. The promise has a life of its own. It is the life of the Holy Spirit. There are several things which verify this truth.
It is a CERTIFIED promise! In the Greek text, there is an article (the) before the word promise. This is a specific promise with specific content (see Acts 1:4; 2:33). It has to do with the Spirit of Jesus indwelling me. It is the promise in which all other promises are fulfilled. This promise has CONTENT. Peter begins his statement with “For” (gar). His previous statement was “you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,” (Acts 2:38). This content is not described in quantity such as gallons or quarts. It is the wonder of relationship with a Person.
Another element is the CONTINUATION of the promise. As Peter boldly proclaims the wonder of the promise to the Jews, he definitely refers to the prophecy with which he began his sermon (Acts 2:16-21). This promise for me is the heart’s desire of God for generations of time. Jesus is the fulfillment of it all. His Spirit fills me! I know Him! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
