I am a Jesus pusher!!! John the Baptist was the last of the Old Testament prophets. Jesus says that he was the greatest man who was ever born; however, he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he (Matthew 11:11). The progression of the Old Testament is traced through the prophets. It appears Moses was the first of this group. God told Moses, “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him,” (Deuteronomy 18:18). In every crisis moment in Israel’s history God raised up a prophet. However, all of these prophets were progressing to the Prophet (John 1:19-21; John 6:14; John 7:40). The Prophet would be the fulfillment of all the prophecies of previous prophets. He is not only the Prophet, He is the performance of all prophecy.
John the Baptist, the last of the prophets, was put in prison; he would soon be beheaded. The focus is now turned to Jesus, the Prophet (Matthew 4:12). Jesus is all in all. We are no longer waiting for the fulfillment of prophecy; Jesus is here. We do not anticipate the unfolding of a plan; He is the plan. Paul cried, “You are complete in Him who is the head of all principality and power,” (Colossians 2:10). Our position is in Him; we rest in Him! We do not search for answers; He is the answer!
