I am a Jesus pusher!!! There is a tremendous shift taking place in Jesus. We are moving from the Old Testament into the New Testament. The Old Covenant is now fulfilled in the New Covenant. The law of God is now completed in Jesus. Matthew gives us a physical illustration of it by presenting John the Baptist who is decreasing that Jesus might increase. John the Baptist is the last of the Old Testament prophets. Jesus is now “the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” (Matthew 3:2). This does not mean that the Old is destroyed by the New. Rather, the first is literally being fulfilled, completed, or brought into the second. When a young couple falls in love, they become engaged. It is a period of planning, adjusting, and developing relationship. When they enter into marriage, the engagement is gone. It has not disappeared for it is the basis of the marriage. All of its memories and influences are still there contributing to the marriage relationship. Engagement is gone, but not destroyed. It was an important period, but only as it contributed to marriage.
You and I live in the reality of the marriage. All of the Old Covenant is fulfilled in Jesus. The law with all of its requirements and the ceremonies with all of their activities come together in Jesus. I am His and He is mine! We are no longer dating; we are married. The intimacy of the fullness of the Spirit of Jesus now embraces my life. We are one. Jesus is my life! I am His and He is mine! I will not go back to duty, obligation, and commands; I will live in love, relationship, and intimacy. Jesus is my Lover! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
