I am a Jesus pusher!!! Jesus proclaimed to His hometown, Nazareth, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me,” (Luke 4:18). Then He proceeded to illustrate this reality by two examples from their Old Testament history. The first story concerned a widow from Zarephath (a Gentile city). Elijah, a prophet sourced by the Spirit of God, announced a three and one half year period without rain which produced a famine. He was instructed to go to this Gentile widow’s home. She provided her last food for his meal. God sourced her bin of flour and jar of oil to never be empty (1 Kings 17:14). The second story concerned Naaman, a Gentile army commander, who had leprosy. He came to Elisha, the prophet sourced by the Spirit of God. Naaman followed the prophet’s instruction and was healed.
These stories irritated the crowd in Nazareth until they attempted to kill Jesus. Their prejudice against Gentiles consumed their total attention. They missed the message of who Jesus was in their midst. My prejudices must not block His communication to my life. I must not twist His truth to fit my agenda. The glory of His presence must not be hindered by my personal convictions. I must not allow my theology (my personal reasoning) to keep me from His perspective. Everything I can produce must be set aside to allow Him to reveal and source my life. I must be a Jesus pusher because He has captured me; He is revealing Himself through me. I am a Jesus pusher because of Him!!!
