I am a Jesus pusher!!! The early believers are described as continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers (Acts 2:42). The aspect of the breaking of bread is connected to the Lord’s Supper. All would agree the Lord’s Supper is entirely focused on the crucifixion of Jesus. He commanded us to remember this. As He broke bread and gave it to His disciples, He said, “Take eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins,” (Matthew 26:26-28). However, the very fact Jesus instituted this with all the disciples present bespeaks the community of believers. The cross of Christ is planted in the midst of my personal life and in the midst of my relationship with you. The early converts were saturating in the teachings of the Scriptures (in the apostles’ doctrine) and involved in business with the Father and each other (fellowship/koinonia). They were also consistently viewing their lives and their relationships in light of the cross (in the breaking of bread).
Eating a meal together in light of the death of Jesus determines my relationship with you. It must involve PARDON. I must forgive you in the same manner and the same depth He forgives me! How has Jesus forgiven me? His forgiveness is without condition or reservation. It is lavish, extravagant, and in abundance. It is forgiveness before I even ask. There is no hesitation in Jesus forgiving me. If I do not forgive my brother in the same manner, a wall is erected which stops me from receiving the flow of forgiveness (Matthew 6:14-15). I am wholeheartedly embracing the forgiveness of Jesus! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
