I am a Jesus pusher!!! The early believers experienced possessing God! This is highlighted in a Greek word (echo) translated had (Acts 2:44). If God owns and possesses us because He made us and bought us back, can we claim the same about Him? Our embrace of Him is not based on what we have done or merited; He has given Himself to us! The story of the Book of Acts flows from Pentecost, the outpouring of the Spirit of Jesus. It was a gift. He gave Himself to us. The promise is “and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,” (Acts 2:38).
The proper understanding of a gift is very difficult for us. Our culture thrives on “doing,” “performance,” and “accomplishment.” Even a gift is given because the receiver is worthy. Jesus has us because He created and redeemed us. We have Him because He gives Himself to us. Between “created” and “redeemed” there is huge failure on our part. It is the redemption that makes us worthy! We have not performed, earned, or merited such favor. He gives the generous gift of Himself. In our unworthiness, we have wanted inferior gifts from Him. We desired thing, solutions, and power. We should have wanted Him. He alone satisfies the heart. Why would we look beyond? There is nothing else but Him. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
