I am a Jesus pusher!!! It was said of the early church, “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need” (Acts 2:44, 45). The crucial issue in Christian stewardship is ownership. The devil is cunning and he would never attempt to keep us from giving of our materialism. He could never convince us that we do not owe Jesus. Instead he shifts the focus from “ownership” to “amount.” If Jesus owns everything, the question is “How does Jesus want me to distribute it?” If I own everything, the question is “How much do I need to give?”
The underlying assumption of this last question is that I own everything I have. Jesus is worthy and requires a set amount for Himself. How much do I need to give Him? The Old Testament Law required a tithe (ten percent). If I give more, I feel very generous. I compare myself to others who give less. If I am wealthy, I may give less than a tithe and still give more than others. But Jesus is not concerned about “how much!” His concern is “ownership!” I have Him and He has me. In this tight, intimate relationship of His fullness He owns everything. He gives Himself to me; I give myself to Him. He is worthy of all. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
