I am a Jesus pusher!!! The early believers cared for the needs of others. Luke says they “sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need” (Acts 2:45). It is an ownership issue. If Jesus owns me, He gives Himself to me. I have the heart of Jesus! I am possessed with His concerns. The key issue is “as anyone had need.” The Greek word (chreia) translated need expresses the idea of necessity. Jesus expressed the same attitude in the Sermon on the Mount. The Old Testament Law allowed for an attitude of revenge, “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” But Jesus called for the attitude of “meeting the need.” “If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away,” (Matthew 5:38-42).
There is no hint of meeting certain requirements in any of these statements. No one hesitates thinking they might be enabling. They are simple statements of the heart of God within the believer. There is no goal to reach. Intimacy with Jesus is experienced. We are one with His desires. This is how we respond because we are filled with Him. I want His heart! I want to know Him so well I am like Him. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
