I am a Jesus pusher!!! When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” (Luke 5:8). Peter was an experienced fisherman supporting his family. He had fished all night and caught nothing (Luke 5:5). If he could not catch fish, no one could. He knew all the methods of fishing and all the best places to catch fish. Jesus, a carpenter, came along to give instructions on fishing. Peter resisted and wanted to dismiss the idea as ridiculous Jesus pressed him. Peter’s self-sourcing was revealed by the miracle of two full boats filled with fish. It was a lesson designed for him. It was a call to faith, invoking the activity of Christ only.
This experience made such an impact that the disciples responded. So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him (Luke 5:11). They could no longer be part time followers. All their excuses about family responsibilities, finances, and their fishing business were set aside. Their focus must be on Jesus and Jesus alone! The Greek word (aphiemi) translated they forsook means “to dismiss” or “to let go.” There is a strong sense of repel or push away. It was not taken from them; but by an act of their will they pushed everything else aside to focus entirely on Jesus. Will you do the same? I am a Jesus pusher!!!
