I am a Jesus pusher!!! After the disciples’ initial response in faith, they went back home to their fishing. Jesus came by the shore of Galilee and encountered this same group again. He called, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). He gave them a beginning vision of what following Him would look like. In the next phase of the call the disciples, after fishing all night and catching nothing, had cleaned their nets, and were going home for some much needed rest. Jesus insisted they go fishing again. Reluctantly they went out into the deep and let down their nets. They experienced the greatest catch of their fishing experience. When they returned to shore, Jesus said, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch me,” (Luke 5:10). Here was a glimpse of the larger vision of following Him.
Now the disciples follow Jesus fulltime. The prayer meeting is called to pray for the laborers needed to accomplish the great harvest. As they pray, Jesus springs to His feet to announce the answer to their prayers. He is going to send them! This is not new; He proclaimed this consistently in the call. This is the practical aspect of “following Him.” There is no way for the call of God to come to fruition in our lives without our enlistment in the harvest or fishing for men. To be joined to the heart of Jesus is to be joined to evangelism. Are you responding? I am a Jesus pusher!!!
