I am a Jesus pusher!!! Evangelism is the heart of God! Those who are intimate with Him and share His nature are possessed with the passion to win the world. John Knox cried out to God, “Give me Scotland or I die!” Wesley burned with the conviction that the world was his parish. Jesus’ parting words to His disciples as He ascended was concerning evangelism. He said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth,” (Acts 1:8). Matthew records the only resurrection appearance of Jesus by appointment. It contains the “Great Commission.” It provided moment by moment marching orders for every believer. He instructed, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,” (Matthew 28:19).
In Jesus’ first encounters with His disciples He called them to the focus on evangelism. Was there a possibility the disciples misunderstood the call? He spoke to them in their language. He described the heart of His intent with the symbol of their common work. He called them to “catch men!” (Luke 5:10). As they spent their time catching fish, they will now spend their time being “fishers of men!” Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). He calls us!!
