I am a Jesus pusher!!! Present within the call of Jesus is INEVITABILITY. It is not optional. Jesus spoke clearly; they would become fishers of men when the followed Jesus. He said, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). “Following Him” was understood as attaching oneself to Jesus. It was a submitting to His teaching and philosophy of life. The moment this takes place Jesus is enabled to make you. You will become the product of His creative embrace. The natural result of such a Spirit-sourcing is fishers of men.
There is a contrast established in the phrase used in Luke’s account. Jesus said, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men” (Luke 5:10). The Greek word (zoogreo) translated you will catch men suggests a contrast with their fishing business. This Greek word is a compound word. It comes from the Greek word (zoos) translated “living.” In addition, the Greek word (agreuoo) is added; it means “to catch or take.” This word means, “to take alive.” In relation to war, it is used for taking prisoners alive instead of killing them. In relation to fishing, the entire purpose and end result of the disciples will change. The contrast is “catch to life” or “catch to death.” Up to this time they caught in order to kill; now they will catch in order to impart life. Do you see that “catching” is inevitable? There is no choice regarding the “catching.” However, there is a choice involved in the “catching.” If we are driven by self-sourcing, the “catching” is to death. If we are driven by Spirit-sourcing, the “catching” is for life. Jesus is “life.” I am a Jesus pusher!!!
