I am a Jesus pusher!!! Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). There is a vast difference between doing evangelism and being a witness. One is about my action; the other is about what is acting upon me. One is about what I proclaim; the other is about what is being declared through me. One is about the facts I speak; the other is about the truth being seen through my life. One can be explained in terms of training, ability, personality, or talent; the other is all about Jesus being seen. One is speaking about Jesus; the other is about Jesus’ speaking as He lives through me. One is about effort; the other is about relaxing and surrendering. One is about trying and duty, while the other is love, passion, and His life.
“I will make you” is a bold and explicit part of the statement of Jesus. Let me remind you “I will make” is a translation of the Greek word “poieo.” It is in the active voice; this proclaims Jesus, the Speaker, responsible for the action of this verb. This is the same Greek word used for “trees bearing fruit.” We will become fishers of men because the creative flow of the Spirit of Jesus will “bear” this within us. It will be the fruit of His creative ability! Aren’t we involved? Aren’t we doing something? We most certainly participate, but we are resourced. This is not about our talent, our ability, or us; it is about Him and His greatness. He demonstrates Himself through the individual who is available (follow Me). I am a Jesus pusher!!!
