I am a Jesus pusher!!! The disciples respond immediately to Jesus’ call (Matthew 4:20). Hesitation causes us to reflect on the loss of important opportunities. It is easy to be overwhelmed with guilt and despair over the loss of key moments in our lives. Our children, marriage, and career are affected. The Hebrew author speaks of such a situation. Esau was such a person. Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears (Hebrews 12:16-17). This statement of the Hebrew author emphasizes that Esau missed his opportunity. It does not emphasize that God would not forgive him. It did not matter how much he repented or wanted the birthright; it was gone. Esau could not go back and regain his missed opportunity. No doubt all of us can think of many such situations in our lives.
If we have the courage to move beyond the guilt and despair of those missed opportunities, we feel like “second class” citizens in the Kingdom of God. It is not true. God in His sovereignty has an amazing way of redeeming the moments. His call on my life today demands an immediate response because this is His primary will for my life. Whatever might have been in the past is gone and God’s best is being presented to me today. Therefore, the call of God for this moment demands an immediate response. It is not because of God; it is because of us. We live in a “time zone,” which creates a past, a pressing present, and an unknown future. God does not live in this zone of time. The urgency of the response is found in the importance of this immediate moment in our lives. Do not miss the opportunity of “today!” Respond to Jesus now! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
