I am a Jesus pusher!!! The Kingdom of Heaven is a communication of “good news!” It is the gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 4:23). The Greek word (euaggelion) translated gospel literally means “good news.” It comes from “eu” which is “good or well” and “aggello” which is “to proclaim or tell.” The Greek word “aggellos” is an angel who bears the message of God. This is the root word of the gospel (euaggelion). In the Greek culture this term became a technical one for “news of victory!” A whole ritual surrounds the coming of the messenger who bears this news. All of this is combined in the announcement of the birth of Christ. The angel of the Lord bears the message to Joseph. It is the “good news” of victory. He said, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins,” (Matthew 1:21).
The focus of the gospel is “good news;” it is news of victory. It is not news of the awfulness of sin; it is not news of judgment. While both of these elements are true, it is not the focus of the gospel. The “good news” does not highlight hell with all of the consequences of sin. The wickedness and cunning of Satan is not the teaching of the gospel. The gospel is “good news!” Upon hearing it, the heart of man realizes there is hope. Life can be different. Sin can be forgiven; there is a way out! Why would we want to share anything else but the “good news?” I am a good new Jesus pusher!!!
