I am a Jesus pusher!!! Matthew specifically attaches the gospel with the kingdom; it is the gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 4:23). It is the “good news” of the kingdom. The content of the kingdom is the content of the gospel. Kingdom in this context must be interpreted as the rule, which God establishes in the hearts of men when Jesus is received by faith. The focus of the Kingdom is not on size, amount, population, space, or finances. It is a focus on the King and more specifically on the ruling of the King. Where ever the King rules the Kingdom is present.
There is a reference to the Kingdom of God in its future state during which we will reign with Christ forever (Revelation 22:1-5). Even this is simply an expansion of the indwelling presence of Jesus reigning from the throne of our inner lives. If the content of the gospel is the Kingdom and the content of the Kingdom is Jesus, then the content of the gospel is Jesus. It is not simply the truth about Jesus; it is Jesus Himself! It is not the action or result of Jesus’ coming; it is the actual reality of the person of Jesus. The Kingdom is found in the embrace of this person; intimacy with Jesus is the substance of the Kingdom. No one is in the Kingdom who does not have Jesus present within him or her. Jesus is the Kingdom. The content of the Kingdom is the actual person of Jesus reigning in the inner person of our lives. It is “good news.” There has never been better news. Jesus forgives and cleanses us from all sin; He embraces us and fills us with His presence. The King indwells us. I am a good news Jesus pusher!!!
