I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Kerygma” is a parallel Greek word to the word gospel (euaggelion). As a verb, it is the act of preaching or proclaiming. As a noun it is translated “preaching.” Paul proclaims, For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached (kerygma) to save those who believe (1 Corinthians 1:21). The “kerygma” is the content of the “euaggelion.”
Preaching always deals with the content of the good news. It is a fixed content. Since preaching is the revelation of this content, there are elements of teaching present in preaching. No one can be said to be “preaching” if they are not exposing the content of the good news (gospel). The fixed content of the gospel contains seven truths. It is a revelation of prophecies fulfilled. Jesus is born of the seed of David in fulfillment of those prophecies. Jesus died on a cross for our sins. He was buried in a borrowed tomb; He resurrected from the dead through the power of the Father. He ascended to be King of the Kingdom while sitting at the right hand of the Father. He will return to restore all things! Notice all of these truths are about Jesus. The content of the gospel is to reveal the person of Jesus. There are only fifty-two Sunday mornings in our year. We cannot afford to use even one of them to highlight any issue other than Jesus. He is the content of the gospel. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
