I am a Jesus pusher!!! In speaking of the resurrection of the body, Paul said, “It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body” (1 Corinthians 15:44). The body of man was designed for earthly existence and is mortal. Paul illustrates the death of this body as the seed, which a farmer sows. He says, “Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies” (1 Corinthians 15:36). So the natural body must come to death in order that the spiritual body might live. When Paul speaks of a spiritual body, he is not speaking of one that is not physical. Both the natural and the spiritual are physical. The focus is on what sources or produces the body. The Greek word (pneumatikos) translated spiritual means what dominates or sources. The Spirit of God sources the spiritual body.
How does this dichotomy of man’s structure instruct us for life today? Jesus’ obvious concern is for the whole man. The presence of Jesus in our lives calls for the whole man to respond. This is not just a spiritual response but also a physical response. The fruits of the Spirit of Jesus are not only to operate within the realm of my spirit but also in the realm of my physical body and drives. Both my body and spirit must come under the control of Jesus. I am a controlled Jesus pusher!!!
