I am a Jesus pusher!!! The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Man closes the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:24-27). It is a focus on the foundation for life. The inner condition of the Kingdom, Jesus, is the stability of our lives. It is not a matter of storms or the lack thereof; it is about Jesus’ presence. The focus is not on the outward structure of the building; it is on the inner foundation of His presence. We must be found in Him; rather, He must be found in us!
This is the Sermon on the Mount. The people were astonished (Matthew 7:28). It is a simple statement, radical both in Jesus’ day and in ours. This Greek word “ekplesso” is found only here in the New Testament. It is used in the sense of “knocking one out of his senses.” The King came to be within us; the Kingdom is established within us; we dwell in the state of the Kingdom. The results of this state are described in the Sermon on the Mount. We will see them demonstrated repeatedly in the life of Jesus. Patience in the midst of a busy schedule, betrayal by His friends, crucifixion resulting from injustice, and the continued list, are all storms of life. However, Jesus remained unshakable. It was the fullness of the Spirit living within Him. This is the one unshakable foundation for life. Jesus must indwell us; every other foundation is sand. No wonder I am a Jesus pusher!!!
