I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,” (Matthew 5:4). There is a wonderful story about the gravel-walk and the beautiful flower.
“How fragrant you are this morning,” said the gravel-walk.
“Yes,” said the beautiful flower, “I have been trodden upon and bruised, and it has brought forth my sweetness.”
“But,” said the gravel-walk, “I am trodden upon every day, and I only grow harder.”
What makes the difference?
Mourning is not a reference to the difficulties of life, although they will undoubtedly be present. “Trodden upon and bruised” is not the result of sickness or natural disasters. Mourning produces the fragrance of Jesus and is only found in fully embracing the helplessness of the spirit. In my state of brokenness, I mourn over every feeble attempt of self-sourcing. This state of mourning flows with a constant submission to the presence of Jesus; I am comforted in Him! One might mourn over their personal condition and never be comforted. The mourning is only a response that allows Jesus to be the Comforter in our lives. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
