Jesus Pusher 361

I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). The verb tense is significant.  It is the future tense and is translated shall be.  However, further research reveals in a more technical sense, it is the aoristic future (A.T. Robertson, Grammar of the Greek New Testament, page 872).  This tense combines the aorist tense with the future tense.  The aorist tense is the non-tense.  It is punctiliar and focuses on the action of the verb rather than the time of its occurrence.  This idea is now included in the view of the future.

The verb “parakaleo” with the combination of future and aorist tenses has a distinct purpose.  It does not indicate the time of action but the effectiveness of action that Jesus has in our lives as we mourn.  It is a past accomplished fact experienced in the future.  Jesus underlines comfort as a certainty.  It is already accomplished.  In other words, we do not recognize our poverty and mourn which causes Jesus to rush in to comfort us.  The comfort of His person is already ours; it has been there all this time.  As we respond to our helplessness and mourn we find comfort. Jesus comfort is consistent and is not dependent on troubled times.  There will be the constant, uninterrupted, and effective indwelling of the Spirit of Jesus within us.  I am a Jesus pusher!!!
