I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are the meek” (Matthew 5:5). We must understand this condition of meekness in the sequence of the Beatitudes. Jesus begins with the poor in spirit. It is a state of being in which the individual is helpless. The location of this helplessness is in the spirit. It is poverty at the inner core of our spiritual lives, the principle of life. We are to live in and through the Spirit of Jesus. Once this is recognized and embraced, it produces mourning. Mourning is the spirit’s expression of embarrassment over its condition. How can I deny the heart of who I am? I am driven to embrace my poverty. This is the attitude of my inner spirit before God. This attitude becomes the posture of acceptance as the fullness of Jesus adequately embraces me. This embrace of helplessness is mourning.
This immediately changes my nature. In this infusion of His Divine presence, the first quality expressed is “meekness.” “Meekness” is the expression of His Divine nature as He supplies and resources my life. “Meekness” is not achieved or earned. It is not developed or a product of discipline. It is not practiced and mastered. It is not copied from others. It is not to be the focus of our desires. It is not a goal to reach. It is a natural aspect as we exist in the Kingdom of God. It is a by-product of Jesus. After all I am helpless, so how can I produce meekness? Jesus is the source! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
