The story of Moses is focused on “the land.” God revealed His motivation for delivering Israel from Egyptian land when He said, “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:7-8). God’s chosen role for Moses was that he leads the Israelites to this land. At the end of Moses’ life, God allowed him to see “the land” with his own eyes. “This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants’” (Deuteronomy 34:4).
From the Book of Exodus to the Book of Numbers the thought that God gives Israel the land is common. In the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses’ last address to the people prior to their entry into the Promised Land is presented. Possession is possible only because God gave the land to the Israelites and drove out the Canaanites. In the Book of Judah, Joshua received the divine command and repeated it (Joshua 1:2, 10-11). Joshua takes “the land” and divides it by lot to Israel as an inheritance (Joshua 13:1 and 7). Jesus’ promised to those who are filled with His spirit will have this physical aspect of “inheriting the land.” I am a Jesus Pusher!!!
