I am a Jesus pusher!!! Let it be stated: “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth” (not CREATE it). An inheritance is solely created, gathered together, and provided by someone else. It is not our making. But how can it be, we are helpless? In our self-sourcing, we create for ourselves. We have many problems to which we must create solutions. There are an abundance of questions to which we must create answers. If we do not create, supply, and resource, how will we survive? Enemies surround us; we must create defense. The list goes on and on!
The Hebrew writer declared a rest. “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it (Hebrews 4:1). There remains therefore a rest for the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9). Exactly how do you describe the rest available to those who are sons of God? Is life to be without purpose and accomplishment? His definition is concise: “For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His” (Hebrews 4:10). The works of God described by the writer are those of creation (Hebrews 4:4). God rested from creating. We are now to enter into His rest and cease from creating. It is a sourcing issue! He created me helpless; I must rest in His creation. He created me to respond; I must live in the response of mourning. His nature is meek; I must rest in His meekness. The whole earth is His creation; I must rest in my inheritance. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
