I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” (Matthew 5:6). The central truth of this physical illustration is the emphasis on the passion of the individual. How does one illustrate the burning desire within the soul for Jesus? Jesus uses severe terms relating to “starvation” and “thirst.” We must keep our focus on the passion of these terms; this is the central focus. The passion is “for righteousness”, which is the wonder of Jesus! The craving of the inner soul is for Jesus. The inner drive that controls all of life is Jesus. Our entire system and every area of our being must know Him!
We must beware of the thinking that Jesus is a means to an end. We hunger for food, and the purpose is to satisfy the needs of the physical body, allowing us to experience health, long life, and enjoyment. Food becomes a means to an end. It is the old question of whether we eat to live or live to eat. Jesus is not a means to an end. This is not a process of logic or the end result of reasoning. If I want to have a good life and have it forever, Jesus is the means to achieve this. What I really “hunger and thirst” for is a good life. Jesus is only an instrument for achieving that for which I “hunger and thirst.” In our passage, I do not “hunger and thirst for righteousness” as for something apart from Jesus. He is “righteousness.” My passion is for Him alone. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
