I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” (Matthew 5:6). The Greek word (chortazo) translated they shall be filled means to feed or to fatten cattle. It comes from the Greek word (chortos) for fodder or grass. In the Pentecost event (Acts 2:1-4) two distinct Greek words were used by Luke to describe the “filling” of the Holy Spirit. The outside God came to be inside man. What a dramatic change this made! The first Greek word (pleroo) translated “filled” pictures content being placed into a container until it is completely filled (Acts 2:2). The second Greek word (pletho) translated “filled” pictures a sponge being saturated with a substance (Acts 2:4). Jesus says something different in this Beatitude. In the imagery of starvation and deprivation of water, Jesus depicts the idea of satisfaction. Does anyone question Jesus’ embrace? Jesus totally satisfies every need of our lives! The Old and New Testaments present this constant theme. David proclaims, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want,” (Psalms 23:1). He continued in this favorite Psalm to express the satisfaction of the believer. “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over” (Psalms 23:5). David exclaims, “The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing,” (Psalms 34:10). He boldly proclaims, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness,” (Psalms 107:9). Jesus fills me! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
