I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” (Matthew 5:6). There is a paradox presented to us in the “hunger and thirst” as seen in light of “they shall be filled.” “Hunger and thirst” are symptoms of being deprived of proper food and water. Once proper food and water are received, “hunger and thirst” is satisfied and ceases to exist. However, the passage suggests (by the verb tense) that “hunger and thirst” are continuous, which should negate the satisfaction of being “filled.” This would mean we are never satisfied. We understand this in the physical realm. Hunger and thirst is satisfied with the proper amount of food and water, but will return again. The satisfaction is only temporary. In fact, we are greatly concerned when we never get hungry or thirsty. It is an unhealthy state!
In the spiritual state, we always seek Jesus and His righteousness. We always want more and never get enough. Yet in this state we experience a satisfaction. It is this satisfaction that seems to make us want more. When we genuinely hunger and thirst for Jesus we find it so satisfying that we desire more and more. We live dissatisfied in a state of satisfaction. Jesus is all we could possibly need in the midst of a growing awareness of our need. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
