I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” (Matthew 5:6). Jesus relates this same truth to the woman at the well. In regard to physical water, He clarifies the fact that “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,” (John 4:13). However, in the spiritual realm, we are promised, “whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst” (John 4:14). Immediately we begin to question this reality. How can it be? This is true for the woman at the well. She responded with an immediate desire for this water only because of her regard for physical thirst. Jesus pointed her back to the spiritual need in her life. Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here” (John 4:16). She admitted she had no husband. Jesus told her of her five husbands. The deep need of her inner spiritual life was thirsting and she could never be satisfied by her relationships with men.
Jesus clarifies how this satisfaction can be so perpetual. He tells her and us, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). This is the picture of a constant thirst continually being satisfied with the flow of the water for which one thirsts. The embrace of Jesus is a picture of a gushing, flowing, never ceasing fountain, constantly quenching the thirst that is always present and ever growing. We live in a dissatisfied satisfaction! Jesus is capable of being this in our lives for eternity. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
