I am a Jesus pusher!!! I am joining with the centurion of old and those under his control. I want to share in their great revelation. This centurion was responsible for one hundred soldiers who were policing Jerusalem. A crucifixion always provided an opportunity for trouble. The crucifixion of Jesus was especially disturbing. The sky had turned dark at the noon hour. It was rumored the veil of the temple had been strangely torn from top to bottom. There were earthquakes taking place. Even resurrections of the dead had come to pass. It was as if the entire natural order was responding to this event. So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54).
I want to join the centurion in proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God. This title is used twenty-six times in the Gospels. Jesus is called “Son of God” by Satan (Matthew 4:3, 6; Luke 4:3, 9), by demons (Matthew 8:29; Mark 3:ll; Luke 4:41), by John the Baptist (John 1:34), by His followers (Matthew 14:23, John 1:49; 11:27; 20:31), by angels (Luke 1:35), and by this Roman centurion. The content of this descriptive title is a focus on the Divinity of Jesus. I am overwhelmed that GOD would embrace me! Allow it to sink deep into your heart and mind. He who is above all has come to us. It is in His coming that our value is established. He has come for me! I have not been forced upon Him. How can anyone force God? I have not conned or manipulated God; does He not know everything? I did not earn His respect; He has simply loved me in the midst of my failures. I must have value for He cares for me. I will surrender to this love. I will allow my life to be shaped and molded by this love. Oh, Son of God, you shall have me! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
