I am a Jesus pusher!!! The sequence of the Beatitudes is important, because they build one on top of the other in Divine formation. The helpless are congratulated because they already dwell in the kingdom of heaven. The Comforter embraces those who mourn in their helplessness. The nature of the Divine is released through the helpless that respond in mourning. It is demonstrated in “meekness.” What the “blessed” experience in Jesus is an unfolding greatness, driving them to hunger and thirst for more. While their capacity is always expanding, Jesus is continually filling them. This is not something He gives to us, but it is Jesus within us, a state of dwelling in Him and Him dwelling in us. In this embrace, we experience the Kingdom and exist within it. We find comfort in God’s embrace, and as we experience His nature the meekness flows. The physical world is in subjection under the Jesus-filled person. Fullness of satisfaction is known as we know Him. Congratulations are given to the merciful ones. This is not a surprise. Is not mercy the heart of Jesus who embraces us? How can those who live in Him not express who He is?
This Beatitude (Matthew 5:7) expresses the nature of a restricted group. You must not take this Beatitude out of its sequence and apply it as the worldview might desire. This is not a call for a judge to have mercy on violators of the law, and this mercy does not apply to a bill collector’s attitude toward those who are in debt. This is not a Beatitude for those who gather in an ungodly environment, planning ungodly activities. It is restricted to those who are filled with Jesus. This is why I am a Jesus pusher!!!
