I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8). The heart of man in the New Testament is more than an organ of the body. It contains within its imagery all an Israelite would consider as the Holy of Holies. As the high priest entered the heart of the temple he approached the sanctuary, the area most sacred containing the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. The high priest in the Holy Place made sacrifices behind the enormous veil separating the Holy of Holies. This was the dwelling place of God. In the imagery of the New Covenant, you and I are the temple of the Spirit of God. “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16)? The heart is the Holy of Holies in which the encounter with God is realized in either the positive or negative sense. This is the foundation, the firm ground, of religious life. All the ethical conduct of a person is determined from this location. “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’” (Galatians 4:6). The confirmation of being sons of God is placed in our hearts. Paul’s prayer for us was “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” (Ephesians 3:17). I want Jesus in my heart! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
