I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8). As we progress through these Beatitudes, we discover the first four are focused on who we are in relationship with Jesus. Immediately we are congratulated as if we are especially fortunate. There is an emphasis of congratulations in all eight Beatitudes. Jesus does not begin congratulating us for purity but for being poor in spirit. However, could this helpless state be the core of purity? It is the mourning that embraces the Comforter. Could the response of mourning be the fiber interwoven through purity? It is the meek who experience the nature of God in His fullness in their physical world as intended. Could this be the source of all purity? Hungering and thirsting allows fullness, which increases hungering and thirsting that brings fullness. Could this be the activity of purity? These individuals are enabled to extend mercy because they live in the state of His mercy. Is this mind-boggling awareness of His mercy the attitude of purity? Perhaps in all the Beatitudes Jesus promotes the standard of purity.
If the entire prior Beatitudes were an explanation of purity, we would assume the condition of purity is the standard of all previous Beatitudes. If you and I were congratulated for the condition of purity, we would assume it is our state and present location. We would also assume it is a standard in which we can and do dwell. It is obviously not a hope for the future or an idealistic impossibility. Jesus intends this for our lives now. Congratulations! Purity is in Him! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
