I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8). Nicodemus was a ruler of the Jews. He came to Jesus in the night hour. He had a question, but began with a testimony. “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him” (John 3:2). This testimony combined with Jesus’ immediate answer conveyed the question Nicodemus wanted to ask. He wanted to know how to be righteous. In the midst of all the pressure of the Jewish requirements, how can an individual know God? Every Jewish law integrated into this single focus.
A rich young ruler at the prime of his successful career came “running” to Jesus. The urgency is found in his question. “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” (Matthew 19:16). Jesus quoted a list of the commandments; this young man claimed to have kept them all. However, he sensed a lack in himself. All his religious observances had not given any satisfaction to the integrated goal of eternal life. He focused his religious experience on this single desire.
Do you see the common element in every one of these illustrations? All the laws and religious activities are integrated into one driving passion of the soul. This is the end we all come to! We want to see God! I want such intimacy with Him that I see Him. If you say, “I want love,” God is love (1 John 4:8, 16). If you say, “I want holiness.” “He who called you is holy,” (1 Peter 1:15). Is not our cry singular? Is it not Him that we want? Jesus is our only chance! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
