I am a Jesus pusher!!! There was no chance to know God until Jesus came. All through the Old Testament God is revealing Himself; but it is a progressive revelation. The final and complete revelation of God is Jesus. Everything I can know about God is contained in Jesus. He is the bosom, the seat of affection, of the Father revealed to me (John 1:18).
Jesus is the declaration of what God is really like! Jesus told the devil, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God,” (Matthew 4:4). What is coming from the mouth of the Father, Jesus calls word. This is a translation of the Greek word “rhema.” It means that which is spoken, a statement or word. I was amazed that Jesus did not use the Greek word “logos,” (John 1:1). “Logos” is the expression of the thought, while “rhema” is the thought itself. “Logos” is the idea expressed and seen, while “rhema” is the subject matter of the expression or the thing about which we are speaking. Jesus is stating that the Father is making a bold declaration. It is coming from the very internal heart of His being. This bold statement is the Scriptures. Jesus, the “Logos,” is the lived out expression of this statement. God is speaking; the statement or substance which comes from the very insides of God through His mouth is the word. When one looks closely at this substance, it is Jesus. He is the visible expression of this substance. In other words, Jesus is the Scriptures with flesh. If the Scriptures were to be taken off of the pages and put into flesh, they would look exactly like Jesus. Jesus is the Scriptures lived out!
If I am intimate with Him what new understanding would I have from the Scriptures? I can know the heart of God revealed through Jesus in the Scriptures. We no longer need to be ignorant of the heart of God. It is not dependent upon intellect, academic training, or personal ability. It is intimacy with Jesus. He wants to reveal the Father to us. The more I know Him the more I know the Father. In speaking of the fullness of the Holy Spirit to come Jesus said, “I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you,” (John 14:20).
