I am a Jesus pusher!!! Is the Kingdom of Heaven a personal thing for my own benefit? The second section, “The Function of the Kingdom” (Matthew 5:13-16) describes how the uniting of the Spirit of Jesus and our spirits will affect our world. He uses the imagery of salt and light. This imagery is pronounced because it naturally highlights a state of being. In other words, the Kingdom of Heaven does not need to worry about performance or accomplishment. This function is a by-product of who He is in us, the Kingdom.
Therefore, our concern is not about accomplishing the task of salt, it is about being one with Jesus. We do not concern ourselves with functioning as light; we simply focus on Jesus. Both of these imageries seem to focus on influence. Paul expressed it, “Now thanks be to God who always leads us to triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Corinthians 2:14-16). In the next verse, he exclaims that we are not salesmen selling our wares. We do not market a program, promote a gimmick, or create a commercial. We simply abide in Jesus and His fragrance changes our world. How can I not be a Jesus pusher!!!
