I am a Jesus pusher!!! The nature of God expressed through us is verified with the imagery of “light.” Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). “World” is a translation of the Greek word “kosmos,” referring to “an orderly arrangement.” “Kosmos” seems to refer to the inhabitants of the earth. Jesus indicates this as He says, “Let your light so shine before men” (Matthew 5:16). There is no purpose to refute or deny this possible meaning.
However, let us consider the context of the statement of Jesus. As already noted, He forcibly states the “Formation of the Kingdom” (Matthew 5:3-12). The Beatitudes are true only in the context of the Kingdom. The Kingdom is a relationship between Jesus, a state of resource, and humanity, a state of helplessness. The Kingdom is in relationship! In the intimacy of His presence and flow of His person the Kingdom exists. His qualities are demonstrated in and through my humanity. I exist in a state of “meekness” (Matthew 5:5). It is in this state that I “inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). This is a translation of the same Greek word “ge” as in our passage. In a previous study of this passage, we discovered this did not refer to the inhabitants of the earth. It has to do with the “land!” There is a strong reference in creation, in the covenants, and now in the Kingdom of Heaven regarding the “land.” It seems to refer to the physical aspect of man’s life. Mankind is to have dominion over all physical life (Genesis 1:28). This physical world is to be the platform for God to demonstrate His nature through us. We get to be Jesus pushers!!!
