I am a Jesus pusher!!! Jesus said, “But if the salt loses its flavor” (Matthew 5:13). This is chemically impossible. Therefore, this discussion is not about “salt” but disciples. The Greek word “moraino,” translated “loses its flavor” here is translated everywhere else “fool” or “foolish.” It is the Greek word from which we get the English word “moron.” Jesus continues, “But if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?” The Greek word “halizo,” translated “shall it be seasoned,” is the same root word as “salt.” Jesus took the noun and turned it into a verb. It could be translated, “How shall it be salting?” When salt isn’t salting, then it is not salt! This statement is not a conditional clause but suppositional. Jesus says when a Kingdom person does not influence his world, he is not a Christian. There is never a time when we can put salt back into salt, nor put the Kingdom back into the Kingdom. You either are or you are not! Therefore, if salt is not salt, “It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men” (Matthew 5:13). Jesus gives us an emphatic statement, saying there is no compromise or room for adjustment. We must understand this statement in light of what He just said.
Let me summarize. When salt is not salting (seasoning), it is not salt, but is playing the fool. Let us focus this statement on the disciples to whom He is speaking. When a Christian is not influencing his world, he is not Christian! The secret of being a disciple is oneness with Jesus! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
