I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). Jesus was walking with His disciples as they passed a man who was born blind. The disciples asked a question, which was the traditional concept of their day. They wanted to know who was guilty of the sin that caused this man to be born blind. Jesus quickly corrected their false thinking. This condition of blindness was not the result of anyone’s particular sin; this man’s blindness was for the purpose “that the works of God should be revealed in him” (John 9:3). Then Jesus began to highlight the need for them to carry out all activities in the “day” or “light.” Activities done in light are distinctly tied to the phrase, “the works of Him who sent Me” (John 9:4). In other words, the Father is intimately involved in the works, and when the Father works through the Son, it is “light.” Jesus concluded, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5). Jesus is the “light of the world” because the Father filled Him; His life and His activities demonstrate the presence, the “light,” of the Father.
Now in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus informed the disciples of the Kingdom to which He calls them. God forms Kingdom people from their helpless state and fills them with His nature. In this uniting, they will be the “light of the world” precisely as He is the “light of the world.” Jesus fulfilled the destiny of the Father within Him, so this was not a challenge to the deeds Jesus did; He fulfilled the destiny of the Father within Him. To what has He called you? In the expression of His nature through you, you will be “light.” I am a Jesus pusher!!!
