I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). John, the Gospel writer, recognized the distinction between Jesus and John the Baptist. He proclaimed the mission of John to be “a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light” (John 1:7-8). While both Jesus and John the Baptist were filled with the Spirit, there was something in Jesus that John did not have. The New Covenant was born when the Spirit of God joined, linked with Jesus, in intimacy and oneness. John the Baptist was filled with the Spirit to do a task, but did not know the same intimacy Jesus knew with the Father. He could point to the Light, but he was not the light. Jesus was filled with the Spirit in intimacy and became the demonstration of the light; He was the light! All who believe the Gospel believe that Jesus is “the Light of the world!”
What shall we say of this statement, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14)? Jesus was not empowered by the Spirit merely for a task, and we are not called just to activities. The essence of Christianity is not the performance of duties or rules. Christianity is a state of being, having intimacy of relationship with Jesus. There must be a merger between the mind of Christ and our mind where His emotions and our emotions become one. What Jesus desires and what we desire become the same. This oneness only happens when I embrace my helplessness and experience His fullness. A new creature emerges through this merger producing our state of existence. “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). What a privilege! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
