I am a Jesus pusher!!! In using the imagery of “light” (Matthew 5:14-16), Jesus stressed the idea of “visibility.” This visibility appears to have two aspects in these verses. One is the reality of making things visible. However, the Kingdom link between God and man becomes visible, but the light exposes their lives. Jesus pointed to this in the imagery of the lamp placed on a lampstand. “It gives light to all who are in the house” (Matthew 5:15). In another place, Jesus said, “And this is the condemnation that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God” (John 3:19-21).
When the light of Jesus shines on a person’s life, that light reveals his deeds and spiritual condition. Jesus ends the Beatitudes with the note of persecution (Matthew 5:10-12). While God reveals His loving heart through the Jesus pusher, the inner life of the one receiving the revelation is exposed, which is irritating for the ungodly to live in such a brilliant examination. It is not that the Jesus pusher is judges or condemns, but it is the consequence of being the Kingdom person. Light exposes sin. I want to be a Jesus pusher!!!
