I am a Jesus pusher!!! Job is the oldest book in the Bible. The opening chapter reveals a gathering of all “the sons of God.” They “came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them” (Job 1:6). In God’s discussion with Satan on the condition of the earth, God mentioned Job. “There is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil” (Job 1:8). Satan challenged Job’s loyalty and faithfulness to God. God established limits beyond which Satan was not allowed. Job became the visible display of a man filled with God. The spiritual realm watched as God highlighted Job.
Job’s story parallels our passage. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). We must see the function of the Kingdom of God in the context of persecution. God set Job on a stage of persecution, adverse circumstances, and terrible criticism. In this context, Job displayed the design of his nature. He demonstrated the righteousness of God. He was a city set upon a hill, the design of the new creature we are in Christ. We are the display of His image amid suffering and persecution. The difficulties of our lives become the stage for the highlighting of His image. People must see Jesus in us; it is the purpose of the design. We are Jesus pushers!!!
