I am a Jesus pusher!!! He is my Hero, the King! In the New Testament, the Greek word (basileia) translated “kingdom” comes from the root Greek word (basileus) which is translated “king.” The heart of the concept of the Biblical Kingdom of God is a focus on the King. This Kingdom does not emphasize territory, but royal reigning. Wherever Christ is reigning, the Kingdom of God is present. This is a mystical concept. Jesus said, “The Kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the Kingdom of God is within you,” (Luke 17:20, 21). However, while not the focus, there is a physical aspect to the Kingdom. The physical area where the King is reigning becomes dominated by the Kingdom. If Jesus is reigning as King in me, I become His territory. When He reigns He sources the activity of His territory.
Matthew began his Gospel account with the genealogy of Jesus. It traced His lineage through King David. This fulfilled the prophecy of the Old Testament. John the Baptist, the forerunner, proclaimed, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!” (Matthew 3:2). He was announcing the presence of Jesus, the King. At His baptism by John, He was filled and sourced by the Holy Spirit. It was His inauguration as the new King. Jesus was becoming the door to the Kingdom for us! His death, resurrection, and ascension were sourced by the Spirit and would enable the same Spirit to indwell us. Indeed, the Kingdom of God would be within us. The Spirit of Jesus, the King, would reign and source us. Jesus is my Hero, the King! I no longer need to do things on my own; I am enabled by my King. The trail of defeats in my life testifies to the disaster of my own reign as king. What a relief to belong to Him, my Hero, the King! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
