I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), the destiny of a lifetime. Materialistic gain, fame, position, and all other accomplishments pale in light of this one great possibility for life. Everything feels right about this; it is like coming home. God created man for this purpose. What more tremendous privilege could we desire? Being the lamp through which others see the light of His Person is worthy of our entire focus. We must sacrifice everything else for this one pearl of great price (Matthew 13:45, 46). Jesus said, “Nor do they light (kaio) a lamp and put it under a basket” (Matthew 5:15). “Kaio” is only used once in our passage. It is used eleven times in the New Testament. The word’s emphasis is not on the lighting of the candle but the “burning” of the light. It carries with it the focus of being consumed. Two men who walked with Jesus on the Emmaus road said, “Did not our heart burn (kaio) within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32).
In the lamp’s use, the oil-soaked into the wick, consuming it to produce the light. The flame producing light consumed a substance (the oil) to continue giving light. We must take this imagery into the spiritual realm. This physical example is a copy or shadow of the real in the spiritual world. Are we willing to be consumed to be light for God? We must be Jesus pushers!!!
