Jesus Pusher 620

I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). This verse stands as the climax to this section. We see the “Formation of the Kingdom” clearly stated in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12). Jesus fills our helplessness with His greatness; this intimate combination forms the Kingdom. Immediately Jesus presents the “Function of the Kingdom!” The critical emphasis seems to be “influence.” We are “salt” and “light.” It is a state of being through which our world is changed. One of the most striking truths of our verse is the use of the word “yours” (humon), which appears three times in the verse. Our attention is drawn to it immediately due to its repetitive appearance. The Greek word “humon” is not used primarily in the sense of “ownership.” It is in the genitive case, which establishes the relationship.

However, this relationship can be in a variety of forms. It is typically used “in regard to yourself” or “concerning oneself,” true in each of the three appearances of this word. “Let your light” is not a statement indicating you own the light. However, it is the light concerning your life; it is the light that you have become. “That they may see your good works” does not mean they are your works because you produced them. It is the works concerning your life coming from the Resource invading your helplessness. “Your Father” is not ownership, but the relationship. The Kingdom person is a new creature consisting of the merger of our helplessness and Divine resource. It is within this intimate, saturating relationship that we are light! We reflect Jesus! We are Jesus pushers!!!
