I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). The privilege of using such a phrase as “your Father” is overwhelming. Jesus’ prayer was attractive to the disciples. They expressed a desire to learn its method and procedure. Jesus seemed to be involved in an intimate conversation with God. What was the technique? Jesus was going to introduce them to a new concept of intimacy, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name” (Matthew 6:9). Again, it is not ownership but intimacy of the relationship. It displays connection on the level of sourcing. The Spirit of the Father is producing us, fathering us! He brings about in us all that is characteristic of Him. His heart becomes ours; His mind penetrates ours. We begin to react like Him, not a technique, but a relationship. He is “your Father.”
He fills our helplessness with His greatness. He becomes ours, not because we own Him, but because He fills us with Himself. All of the beatitudes begin to be real in our lives because they are characteristic of Him. Will this not be seen through us? It is “your light” not because you own it, but because He fills you with it. They are “your good works” not because you own them, but because you are the vessel through which Jesus accomplished them. Indeed, He is “your Father” not because you own Him, but because you are His, and He gives Himself to you. All that Jesus displays through you glorifies Him. We become Jesus pushers!!!
