I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We must return to the Beatitudes, the context of our passage (Matthew 5:3-13). We begin with the most disgusting quality, weakness. Only Christianity proposes that that weakness is a virtue. Can you imagine the shock when Jesus congratulated those who are “poor in spirit?” When we embrace our helplessness and consistently respond in that state, something (Someone) transforming happens in our lives. Jesus embraces our helplessness and forms the Kingdom of God. We are new creatures created out of weakness in the embrace of great resource and strength.
This new creature is where you find the attractive, beautiful, and good works. “Meekness” begins to flow in all of the physical activities of our lives. We “inherit the earth.” Instead of emanating death and destruction, meekness allows us to work with our physical world flow. Meekness is not a single activity but a flow of attitude from the mind of Christ united with the believer. There is a “hunger and thirst for righteousness” characterizing the entire life of the Kingdom person. It is an openness to growth, change, and correction. Instead of stubborn, narrow, and hardheaded, we are open, seeking, and responding. It is a beautiful and attractive attribute of our lives. It is not one activity we do, but a chief characteristic of all activities. “Mercy” flows from our lives. We obtain mercy from the Resource, indwelling our weakness, and purity comes from the heart. It is a flow of seeing God and expressing Him in every movement of our being. We demonstrate the beauty of holiness. Who wouldn’t want that? It is a Jesus pusher!!!
