I am a Jesus pusher! The Greek word “pater,” translated as “Father” in our passage (Matthew 5:16), is used four hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. Two hundred and fifty times, it addresses God. We could fill pages discussing the various aspects of “God as our Father.” There is the genealogical aspect; He is the source of our existence. Paul quoted from the Old Testament, “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18). However, with the proposal of this idea, we must recognize the protector, nourisher, and helper content. The content of “Father” carries us into the attitude and action of God towards us.
There is a distinction between God being the Father of Jesus and God as our Father. Jesus is the Eternal Son; He is the only begotten of the Father. John writes, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). We find the content of the perfect and infinite expression of the Father’s love in Jesus. Peter said, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). Everything existing between Jesus and the Father is now present in our relationship with Him! Live in the confidence of the love of the Father! I am a Jesus pusher!
